Gym Rat Classes

Locating rats is a fast growing sport that encourages your dog to use their senses to locate live rats secured inside PVC tubes. These tubes are then hidden in various locations within a ring of stacked straw bales. All dogs can learn to locate them, even if it isn’t part of their natural breed tendencies. Locating rats is a fun sport both you and your dog will enjoy!

All class levels will focus on reinforcing alerts, maintaining value for finding the rats, reading body language, and provide a better understanding of olfaction and odour behaviour.  Clearing and distance challenge exercises may also be added in at any level. 

All skills learned will easily transfer into any competitions designed to locate rats. 

All Gym Rat classes will be taught by May Fischer.

Intro to Rat Finding

This seminar is for those interested in learning more about the very popular dog sport of Barn Hunt. This session will consist of introducing the dogs to the rats as well as other elements in the Novice level. BHA is the original and most participated in association, so those are the levels and rules we will be focusing on. If your dog likes sniffing, come out and see what all the fun is about!

All Levels - Monday Nights

Anyone who has completed the introductory course may sign up for any of the time spots listed below. Each class will have a mix of levels and exercises will be customized for each dog and handler. 

Prerequisite: Intro to Rat Finding

Class Schedule:   Nov 4, 18, 25, Dec 2, 9   5:30pm, 6:30pm, or 7:30pm

Cost:  5 weeks - $132 (GST included)

All payments are due within 24hrs of receiving your registration confirmation and are non-refundable/transferable as space and instruction is booked based on the number of attendees.
